PLEASE READ – IMPORTANT
REMAIL OF THE OPTOMETRISTS’ UNIT CONSTITUTIONAL VOTE
There was a glitch in the original mailing that made a secret ballot impractical. Because of this we are re-doing the balloting for the changes to the Optometrists’ Unit Constitution. To ensure compliance with ESC’s commitment to our Union democracy please participate in this corrected and re-issued balloting. No ballots from the original mailing will be opened or counted.
When you receive your new balloting material, please mark and submit the new ballot, place the ballot in the ballot envelope and then in the return envelope EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY VOTED USING THE PREVIOUS BALLOT MATERIALS. The deadline for the balloting has been extended and the new ballots must be received via U.S. mail at the Union office by Thursday, April 12, 2012. The new ballots are the only ones that will count towards the final result.
We sincerely apologize for the confusion that this has caused. If you have any questions please contact your Union Representative or steward.
OPTOMETRY UNIT CONSTITUTION
In accordance with Article XXII of the Optometrists Unit constitution, the Unit Board is recommending a number of amendments.
Most are simply language clean-up and the full text of the proposed changes to the constitution can be reviewed by clicking here:
The one significant change is to add a seat reserved for election of an Optometric Assistant. The Optometric Assistant classification was added to the Bargaining Unit several years ago. The sense of the Board is that, in order to ensure that their voice is fully heard in their union, they should be afforded the opportunity to elect one of their own to the democratic governing board.
Ballots are being distributed to all Optometry unit Union members in good standing.
Ballots must be mailed to the Union office in sufficient time to be received by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2012.
