Clinical lab scientists at Seton Medical Center in Daly City have been represented by ESC Local 20 since 2013. Through many changes of ownership, from Daughters of Charity to Verity Health Systems and now to Advanced Hospital Management Corporation (AHMC), ESC Local 20 members have stood strong to protect our hard-won contract and our voice at work.
County of Santa Clara
ESC Local 20 represents Clinical Laboratory Scientists and other healthcare professionals at Valley Medical Center and O’Connor Hospital in San Jose and St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy. ESC also represents Microbiologists at the Santa Clara County Public Health Department lab. These medical professionals play a vital role in the County of Santa Clara’s health system by facilitating quality patient care, participating in teaching hospital training programs, and performing biohazard safety work for our community.
County of Sonoma
ESC Local 20 represents Public Health Nurses, Environmental Health Scientists, Behavioral Health Clinicians, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Microbiologists, Dairy Inspectors, and other classifications who work for Sonoma County. The hundreds of public employees in this bargaining unit provide critical services to Sonoma County residents to keep the community healthy and safe.
Dameron Hospital
ESC Local 20 represents Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Laboratory Technical Assistants at Dameron Hospital, a 200-bed facility in Stockton that provides care to some of the area’s most underserved residents. Lab Scientists and Technical Assistants in this bargaining unit support Dameron’s mission by ensuring physicians have the data and information necessary to provide quality patient care.
Dignity Healthcare
ESC Local 20 represents various medical professionals in the Clinical Labs and the Pathology, Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, MRI, and Scheduling Departments in the Dignity Health Medical Group. In 2019, the Woodland and Greater Sacramento contracts merged to form a master agreement. Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Clinical Microbiology Scientists, and Medical Laboratory Technicians at St. Joseph’s Medical Center and HealthCare Clinical Laboratory in Stockton are also organized under this contract, further expanding members’ bargaining power.
Greater Sacramento
Dignity Health of Greater Sacramento is comprised of four hospitals in the Greater Sacramento Area: Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, Mercy Hospital of Folsom, Mercy San Juan Medical Center, and Mercy General Hospital. Since 2014, Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Clinical Laboratory Scientist Coordinators, and Medical Laboratory Technicians at these hospitals have been represented in a single contract. In 2019, St. Joseph’s Medical Center and HealthCare Clinical Laboratory in Stockton also organized into this contract.
UCSF Health St Francis
ESC Local 20 represents Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Clinical Lab Scientist Section Leads at UCSF Health Saint Francis in San Francisco. Formerly owned by Dignity Health and known as Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, this facility became part of UCSF Health in 2024.

Dignity Health Woodland covers the widest range of medical professionals of the Dignity Healthcare contracts. ESC Local 20 represents Clinical Lab, Pathology, Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, MRI, and Scheduling professionals throughout hospital and clinical locations in the Woodland area.

Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Medical Laboratory Technicians are proud members of ESC Local 20 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital. Hazel Hawkins is a community hospital serving the residents of San Benito County and is located in Hollister, CA.
HCA Good Samaritan Hospital & Regional Medical Center
ESC Local 20 represents medical professionals in three different groups at HCA’s Good Samaritan Hospital and Regional Medical Center (RMC) in San Jose. After negotiating separate contracts for many years, Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Imaging Professionals, and Respiratory Therapists united under one contract in 2014. At the end of 2017, Speech Pathologists as well as Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy health professionals organized to join ESC and became part of this contract. Dietitians and Social Work Professionals followed in 2018. ESC is proud to have all the bargaining units at both Good Sam and RMC working together to strengthen our Union, contract, and working conditions.
Palo Alto Medical Foundation (Sutter Affiliate)

20 Oncology and Hematology RNs joined ESC Local 20 in 2017, expanding our geographical representation of health professionals working at PAMF.

In 2018, more than 60 Nurse Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Optometrists, at PAMF Santa Cruz joined ESC Local 20, expanding the range of professionals represented in our Union.

Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital
In November 2014, Clinical Laboratory Staff at Salinas Valley Health Medical Center overwhelmingly voted to join ESC Local 20. Since then, these lab professionals have been fighting tirelessly to push the hospital’s administration to recognize the union of their choice. They have had the support of the State of California, which has issued multiple complaints against the hospital for their failure to recognize ESC Local 20. Even as the hospital continues to delay, ESC and Salinas Valley health professionals keep organizing and fighting for a voice at work and a fair union contract.
St. Rose Hospital
Clinical Lab Scientists and Registered Dietitians at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward joined ESC Local 20 near the end of 2017. After 10 months of bargaining, these healthcare professionals reached an agreement on their first contract, which included fair wages, stabilized working conditions, and improved staffing.
Sutter Health
Healthcare professionals at Sutter Health hospitals, clinicals, and medical offices throughout the Bay Area are members of ESC Local 20. ESC’s nine bargaining units represent Advanced Practice Clinicians, Clinical Lab Scientists, Registered Nurses, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Dietitians, and Social Workers.
Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital
ESC Local 20 represents Pharmacists, Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Medical Social Workers, and Dietitians at the Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital (SSRRH).
Novato Community Hospital
ESC Local 20 represents Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Laboratory Technical Specialists, Physical Therapists, and Dietitians at Novato Community Hospital. A Sutter Health Affiliate, Novato Community Hospital is a small community hospital that provides inpatient and outpatient services to local residents.
Eden Medical Center
ESC Local 20 represents Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Clinical Laboratory Technicians at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. Eden Medical Center is a Sutter Health affiliate and a trauma center hospital serving Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro, and surrounding communities.
