Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic turned our worlds upside down. The safety and survival of our patients, families, and communities consumed every aspect of our daily lives. Understandably, during that time, LMP Committees, Unit-Based Teams, and other Partnership Structures were not meeting consistently or were not fully functional. Achieving PSP goals without these structures was nearly impossible.
Because of this, the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions pushed Kaiser to recognize the sacrifices of our unions’ healthcare workers with a Hero Bonus as opposed to the typical PSP goal-related bonus.
Despite this agreement, Kaiser is trying to short-change thousands of our Coalition Sisters and Brothers, including ESC Local 20 members, by using a calculation loophole. Effectively, they want to penalize heroes serving on healthcare’s front lines during a world-wide pandemic for not meeting PSP goals that were set under regular times.
In fact, Kaiser did not even pay the Hero Bonus to any of the ESC Local 20 Home Health Therapists. After pushing from ESC Local 20, this error will soon be corrected and Hero Bonuses will be distributed by March 10 (for those with direct deposit) to ESC Local 20 Home Health Therapists.
Kaiser made $6.2 billion during 2020 but is unwilling to fairly share that with the caregivers and workers who made that possible. Take action below to tell Kaiser CEO Greg Adams at gregory.a.adams@nullkp.org that this is unacceptable, and stay tuned for more information on how you can support our Coalition Sisters and Brothers on the picket line.
